Forsythia is one of the best and most widely available plants for forcing.  

February and March are the best months to force flowers.
Pick a day that is above freezing.
Cut the stems in lengths of less than 3 feet, and bring them indoors.
Put the stems in a bucket of warm water.
Cut another inch off the bottoms of the submerged stems.
Allow the forsythia stems to soak in the warm water
Change the water frequently.  

You'll speed up the process if you keep the stems in a high-humidity
environment and give them some sun.
